Book
Dr. Kang published a book in July 2016 titled Post-Tonal Affinities in Piano Works of Bartók, Chen, and Crumb. In the vein of her affinity for new music, this theoretical study explores the musical affinities of three composers, with Béla Bartók serving as a sort of father figure to Chen Yi and George Crumb. It analyzes the use of cellular pivots as a new means of progression and also includes discussions on other contemporary compositions (piano and non-piano works). An overarching goal is to provide insight into universal principles of the post-tonal era.
